Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine is said to have been founded in 711 and is the head shrine of the Inari shrines, of which there are said to be approximately 3 across the country.
Approximately 10,000 vermilion torii gates donated by worshippers are lined up throughout the grounds of Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, spreading across the entirety of Mount Inari. On the way to the summit, there are many sacred mounds scattered throughout the grounds, as well as numerous statues of foxes, which are said to be messengers of the god Inari.
Inari Okami is widely worshipped by people all over the country as the god of prosperity in business, bountiful harvests, and even safety in the home, and many people come to worship him.
