Kyo-Yuzen is a traditional dyeing technique that was developed in Kyoto. Among these techniques, one that is particularly delicate and rare is the "Suribitta" technique. The soft gradations and bleeding that are created by using a stencil and rubbing the dye in with a brush give the piece a warmth that can only be achieved by handwork.
During the experience, you will be directly instructed by Kyo-Yuzen dyeing master Masuhiro Kitamoto. You will dye seasonal floral patterns and create your own unique tapestry. The craftsman will also talk about the meaning of the flowers and the background of his techniques, and will be happy to answer any questions you may have, ensuring a time full of learning and discovery.
The final finishing touches are made at the workshop, and the piece is delivered to your hotel in Kyoto the next day or two days later. It's a special moment to own a one-of-a-kind piece.
